You Can Change Your PSN ID Now!... But There's a Catch.

Although it's been covered numerous times now, being a big PlayStation fan I feel I should report the new long-time-coming feature within the world of PlayStation.

As of today, Sony is finally letting the public change their decade+ old usernames. Yee-haw.

Honestly though I am both excited for and scared of this new feature. Back in late 2018 Sony did a Beta test for this feature and we all found out a few things! After changing your username it may result in problems within certain games. Problems like… your old username showing, no name showing at all, the loss of trophy data, save data, or even purchased content.

I think we can all agree the latter half of those problems are the spookiest… I mean who would want to change their username if It meant losing save data or content one spent actual money on? Or even… *gasp* trophy data. Well I can imagine the choice isn't so hard for someone with the username (overused joke incoming) x420xBluntsx420x.

Now that PlayStation has, presumably, tested this feature far more since the beta and feel that it is ready for public use, I for one feel much better about it. The gist of the feature is that the first username change is free for everyone and any change after that will cost 10 USD for non-Ps Plus members and 5 USD for Ps Plus Members. On top of this, users will also be able to keep their old usernames I assume incase they run into problems or want to revert back to x420xBluntsx420x… for some reason. Passing the account on to their kin perhaps?

PlayStation has also stated that they can only guarantee games that released on April 1st 2018 and forward will support the username change. Anything else may or may not have issues or need to be updated by developers. PlayStation has also released two lists. One lists games that may have minor issues with the feature and the other lists games that may have “critical” issues with the feature. Those lists are here:
