TerminalMontage Video Game Animations are Absurd & Amazing

One of my favorite discoveries as of recently have been animations created by the YouTuber “TerminalMontage”. These mini cartoons loosely follow the stories of games like Donkey Kong Country or Kirby and utilize crude, goofy artwork and animation to get their satirical take on the stories across- to a hysterical degree.

These animations remind me a bit of the reign of “YouTube Poop”, a genre of video that was popular during the younger years the now massive platform YouTube. Although TerminalMontage’s videos have much more structure, are referencing a story and characters and of course- are made up of custom animations and artwork and therefore not rehashes of something else (such is “YouTube Poop”).

The sudden judders of action, hilariously unnatural movement and wacky sound effects provide a kind of stupid humor that demands a chuckle. Notably, a large majority of the sound effects used are taken from the source content and then edited, these might give a tickle to your Nostalgia bone too! The satire of each video towards the respective game being referenced is genius and amusing. A great example of this is the “Something About Mario 64 Speed Run” video where the animation pokes fun at the ridiculous game breaking techniques that are used to by speed-runners to complete the iconic N64 title Mario 64 as fast as possible. On top of this, the video also has fun imagining how a certain infamous boss character would react to seeing Mario flipping sporadically, skipping levels, and essentially bending the reality of his world.

TerminalMontage seems to have a healthy growing fan base on YouTube and if the number of view on his videos is anything to go by, his content is popular and loved by many. It’s always nice to see animation work garnering popularity like this, considering the time and effort that goes in, especially from a one person team. What’s better is its often a sign there will be much more content to come! I await more joyously absurd animations from TerminalMontage in the future!
