Original Borderlands Remaster Coming Soon?

With all the excitement and anticipation about what Gearbox will be announcing at this year's upcoming Pax East, especially with the possibility of a Borderlands 3 or the Handsome Collection on Switch announcement, it's easy not to think of Gearbox's titles of the past. With that said, the chance of a Borderlands (1) re-release has just spiked up 10-fold.

I think video game ratings from the ESRB are a decent indicator for potential games being “leaked” ahead of their official announcement and this is especially true for re-releases considering the game has already been rated before and so it begs the question: why is this game being looked at once again? All of this applies to Borderlands: GOTY Edition because just recently it had been discovered that the ESRB has rated the title again and it states the game is on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Let's have some fun theorizing the possibilities from best to worst…

Borderlands 1 Reboot

The best possibility would be a complete remake of Borderlands utilizing the engine being used to create Borderlands 3. With completely overhauled visuals and sound design on top of possible gameplay changes and additions, such as 4-player local play or reworked skill trees, It would be fantastic! This seems like the most far fetched idea, but hey most of the best possibilities are. I CAN DREAM, OKAY?

Borderlands 1 Remastered

A remaster of Borderlands for the current generation of consoles with updated visuals (4K?) and running at 60 fps (This could still utilize the Borderlands 3 engine in terms of visual fidelity).This is, I feel, the most likely possibility and I am completely stoked for this! I hope they can add 4-player local play to this title as well!

Borderlands 1 Lazy Port

The same game that released in 2009, although on PS4 and Xbox One it will run as it does on a PC. This is okay. I will still pick it up, no doubt. I don’t foresee this happening, but maybe that just because I do not want it to be the truth… Better than nothing at all! Speaking of that...

Nothing Happening

DO NOT EVEN THINK FOR A SECOND I WILL ENTERTAIN THIS POSSIBILITY. THE ESRB NEVER LIES, OKAY? I think this is nearly impossible considering the ESRB states the game is on PS4 and Xbox One.

Well, it would seem we will be getting a plethora of Borderlands content at the upcoming Pax: East. If we're lucky we’ll be able to once again explore the wastelands of the game that started the most famous looter-shooter series (IN 4K?) before the end of 2019! Pax is a week away and I can barely stay in my seat!
