Nintendo to Make a Switch to the Switch

If you haven't heard there's been rumors of Nintendo planning to release a new model of the Nintendo Switch- two new models actually. It was reported by the Wall Street Journal that the iconic tech company will be releasing both a smaller more portable version and a larger more powerful version of the current Nintendo Switch. This is still rumor of course, but reports also state that developers have dev kits for the new models. So as always, its fun to speculate!
What are the new models named?
Currently there are no official names for the new Switch models, but many are calling the small model the Switch Mini and the more powerful model the Switch Pro. How Nintendo will name these consoles will be interesting and I will pray they don't bring back the “New” prefix they utilized with their 3DS line.
What will these new models entail?
The Switch Mini will be more portable for sure. I suspect it will have lighter parts and a slightly smaller screen, but a screen that has no bevel.
Some suspect it will ditch the home console capability of the original Switch, but I don't think so. I DO think it will not come with a dock to cut down on the price and in a way that makes it portable only out of the box. The Switch Pro on the other hand MAY be slightly larger, but I don't believe that to be necessary. I feel the Pro will have a better screen, a more powerful processor for higher frame rates, and possibly a more powerful graphics card, although that specifically may be a bit too far. The form factor and aesthetic of the new models are also bound to change. Hopefully these new Switch models are even sleeker than before!
What does this mean for the original Switch?
As of now Nintendo can go one of two ways. The company can keep the original system in the product line-up or they can phase it out (most likely over time). Now does this mean the original Switch will receive a price drop to have an appropriate price point in relation to Switch Mini and Switch Pro. This is a very delicate balance for Nintendo to make and it all comes down to what each new system takes away and offers. If the prices are too close to one another, why not just get a Pro?
When will the Switch Mini & Pro release?
There's no official release yet (heck, there's no official announcement for these system models as of yet) but some speculate the Mini will release relatively soon and will capitalize on the Summer months. As for the Switch Pro, It would be smartest for Nintendo to release this Switch model close to the release of Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s new Xbox.
What did you think of these rumors? Would you buy a Switch Mini? A Switch Pro? Why or why not? Let me know down below!
