I have an addiction. This article is my confession… I'm... I'm a Nintendo music addict. Hmmm. Now that I think of it, that's not a dangerous thing to be addicted to… Nintendo Music is spectacular! It started about two months ago when a video titled “1 Hour of Relaxing Nintendo Music” appeared on my YouTube feed. Looking for something to listen to while I studied and completed course work, I curiously clicked it. What a great decision on my part! It was wonderfully fitting for my task at hand! Soothing tunes and songs that persuaded my foot to tap away also persuaded my fingers to tap away at my keyboard, I was relaxed and focused.
I've always been a Nintendo fan. As a kiddo, I loved all the Nintendo consoles I owned, some of which included the SNES, GB, Game Cube, and Wii. All of my Nintendo consoles let me play a vast array of games and therefore hear their soundtracks, so I've heard my fair share of Nintendo music. Although it wasn't until I’d listened to these songs with headphones on, encompassing all that I heard, that I would find a new appreciation for the quality, beauty, and variety of Nintendo music. From the symphonic sound of Mario Galaxy to the chill beats of Animal Crossing, or the magical music of The Legend of Zelda, there's so much variety of quality tunes fitting for any situation! One of my favorites may be the Donkey Kong Country soundtrack mixes, the songs are chill, synth-wavey, with a great mix of instruments and melodies. You can feel the nature themes within each track.
I listen to Nintendo Music while I do course work, while I am driving, while I write, while I photoshop, walk around, longboard, tidy up, whatever it may be it. It helps inspire me and or keep me focused. Even listening to it without doing anything else is a treat, the lovely melodies, strings, and piano among a mixture of other instruments make for a pleasant listening experience. This new habit of listening to Nintendo music has also got me to branch out and listen to other video game soundtracks. “Indie and Chill” indie game music mixes, Sonic the Hedgehog soundtrack mixes, and Mega Man music mixes are a few examples!
I hope my new love and “addiction” (Ha, pffft...ha) for Nintendo music is not a personal trend, because it's entertainment and helpfulness has been a fantastic element to my lifestyle thus far. Although, whether or not it sticks in around in my day-to-day life, It will always remain a love of mine and a beacon of recognizable nostalgic notes strung together, welcoming my ears.
