Overwatch is approaching its third birthday this May (good god its been that long) and Blizzard has stuck to their usual wonderful habit of supporting their titles for years. Since launch, Overwatch has seen a variety of heroes, maps, modes, events, and hero redesigns added to the game to keep it fresh and interesting. Spring 2019 isn't any different as yesterday, the new Hero Baptiste was revealed and added to the Overwatch PTR (test server). Baptiste is the ninth hero added to the colorful team shooter, ticking the number of available heroes up to 30.
Baptiste is a war grizzled battle medic who has access to a variety of high-tech abilities to support his teammates.
Baptiste's primary attack is a three-round burst shot from his assault rifle. This is the first three-round burst attack introduced to Overwatch.
His assault rifle doubles as a grenade launcher that heals teammates caught in the splash radius.
The soldier stud's passive ability “Exo Boots” readies his next hop to be a go-go gadget super jump after crouching for a second.
Baptiste's first active ability is “Regenerative Burst”. When activated, Baptiste and any nearby teammates are healed for 30 health each second for 5 seconds.
His second active ability “Immortality Field” does exactly as the name suggests. Baptiste deploys a small round blue zone. Anyone inside the zone, including Baptiste, are incapable of dropping below 20% health and are therefore immortal for as long as the zone lasts.
Finally, his ultimate, “Amplification Matrix” deploys a small transparent and penetrable wall that doubles the damage and healing effect of friendly projectiles that pass through it!

With constant releases of new games and the massive amount of time I’ve already sunk into the game, I've lost interest in Overwatch as of late, but this new hero has me hyped to jump back in and try him out when he officially releases! I think Baptiste is stacked and his kit is packed to the brim with crazy abilities compared to other characters. I think this is both positive and negative for Overwatch. Its positive for shaking up the meta of the game and revitalizing it for players with an awesome new hero with powerful abilities. It can be a negative for the obvious threat of imbalance, but with his presence in the PTR, hopefully, Blizzard can iron out any major issues that come from the introduction of such a robust and refreshing hero!
What do you think of the new hero Baptiste? Are you still interested in Overwatch after nearly three years? Let me know all this and more in the comments below!
